Gunns Out: 3 Directors to replace him & 1 who won't
Disney ousted James Gunn today following the discovery of offensive tweets by the American director. The tweets involved offensive and insensitive jokes about rape and pedophilia. With Gunn removed from the directing chair for Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3, it's time to start thinking: who will replace him? Here are three directors we think are up for the task:
1. J.J. Abrams
At the top of the list is Abrams, who has had considerable success with both big budget films like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Trek as well smaller budget films like Super 8 & Cloverfield. It would also be Abrams first Marvel film.
2. Russo Bros.
Here's a duo that's likely near the top of Disneys short list. The pair have directed 2 Captain America films as well as Avengers: Infinity War. Scheduling conflicts could be an issue as the two are still working on Avengers: Infinity War Part II. Still, judging by the quality of the MCU films they've helmed they should be front runners.
3. Joss Whedon
Whedon is probably the most likely of the three we've chosen to take over the reigns from Gunn. He has experience in the MCU directing both Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. Recently, he filled into a similar role taking over for Zach Snyder in Justice League.
Least Likely
Abrams may be first on our list, but he seems least likely to replace Gunn. Beyond the Director working on Star Wars Episode 9 - Abrams is very selective on the projects he chooses to undertake. Recently, reports were that Abrams was offered the top spot at LucasFilm but immediately refused.
