"Captain Marvel" Movie Review #2
Captain Marvel certainly suffers from being such as polarizing film due to the marketing and messaging in the film. While some say the movie is fantastic and others say it’s terrible, the truth is its somewhere in the middle in terms of quality. Maybe too much so in different aspects of the film. Let me explain:
The acting is up and down at best and I'm not convinced that Brie Larson was the right woman for the job. The best performance came from Ben Mendelsohn as Talos and the worst from Jude Law with all other actor/actress somewhere in between. The script is weak and uninspiring - just thrown in before Endgame when Captain Marvel's character would be better served with a Black Panther-esque ascension into the MCU.
Captain Marvel did have some great visual effects, but again, too much inconsistency in lighting made some scenes difficult to make out. Where I'm giving my highest score - musical soundtrack & score - was great for a 90's based film even with overall messaging attempting to override the fun of it.
Overall, largely due to the quality of the MCU thus far, Captain Marvel is a lower tier MCU film which is loved or hated based on feminist messaging.
