TrueIndie Tuesday: An Interview with Mark Gillis, Writer and Director of the Film "SINK"

The movie SINK is a compelling story about the life and struggle of a working class man named Micky (Martin Herdman) in the UK. The tough economy has made it difficult for Micky to find and maintain stable employment. And to add more challenge to his situation, Micky is also trying to take care of his elderly father (Ian Hogg) whose mental state is deteriorating while also looking out for his son (Josh Herdman) who’s past issues with drugs remains a potential concern.

After a series of employment setbacks and rejection, Micky must consider a completely out of character choice in hopes of gaining stability for himself and keep his family together.

Mark Gillis is the writer and director of SINK. This is the first feature length film that he’s written and directed, and he graciously agreed to discuss the project with me. In this interview, we talk about Mark’s transition from actor to filmmaker, how he developed this story for SINK, and the many challenges that came with making and distributing this movie on a micro-budget.
