Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker Finally Passes $500 mil Domestically - Pacing Behind Rogue One

Last year, the culmination of the Infinity Saga in the MCU led to the largest box office haul of all time when Avengers: Endgame earned a whopping $2.79 billion. The MCU had only been around since 2008 - Star Wars has been a cultural phenomenon since it blasted it’s way into theaters in 1977. Rise of Skywalker was marketed as the film that would tie up the entire Skywalker saga. One would assume that the much awaited Skywalker finale could rival that of its MCU counterpart. Boy, that assumption couldn’t have been further off. After a strong start with The Force Awakens (which actually earned more than Avengers: Endgame domestically) and critical darling Rogue One. Disney’s Sequel Trilogy fell off a cliff. Nobody really went to Solo, The Last Jedi is the most divisive Star Wars film ever made and Rise of Skywalker is viewed worse among critics than the lowly Phantom Menace. Who else misses Jar Jar? The fact that the series finale can’t even keep up with an earlier spin off is a bad sign. Yes, Rise of Skywalker made $1 billion globally, but honestly, its Star Wars and $1 billion is a low mark not a bench mark for these films. It started with fear, fear that Disney couldn’t handle Star Wars which led to anger & hate for The Last Jedi and suffering through The Rise of Skywalker. It appears our journey to the dark side is now complete.
