Entertainment News Recap | Tim's Top 5 Stories of the Week | Dec 7-13

We got big news out of Disney Investor Day, another movie release date change, and a Spider-Man reunion this week.

1. Ryan Reynolds’ upcoming comedy, Free Guy, to be released in May 2021.

The action comedy will now release May 21, 2021.

SOURCE: Fandango

Opinion: While Fandango’s social media post stated that Ryan Reynolds’ is worth waiting for and that may be true, however, to maintain my consistency on the pushback of release dates I wish the studio had made plans to release on streaming rather than continually move the release date back. After such a long wait, hopefully we get more Deadpool than Green Lantern.

2. Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield will return to Spider Man Franchise.

In addition to previous entries villains making their return to the franchise. It has been reported by Collider that Garfield and Maguire will return to their roles as long as they can reach respective deals with Sony. Both of their love interests may also return in Kirsten Dunst (Mary Jane) and Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy). We’re looking at a live action Into The Spider-Verse!

Opinion: After the overwhelming success of Into the Spider-Verse I think Marvel is attempting to replicate that success with the third in the Tom Holland led Spider Man franchise. It’s an interesting premise and hopefully they can pull it off. I’m more excited to see Maguire than Garfield.

3. Hayden Christensen to return as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan spinoff on Disney+

After years’ of fans begging for an Obi-Wan spinoff featuring Ewan McGregor Disney+ will deliver. Hayden Christensen will reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader (per Kathleen Kennedy) in the series taking place 10 years after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

Opinion: Hayden Christensen dealt with fan backlash long before any of the newcomers public bouts with disgruntled fans. I’m excited to see his return and a chance at redemption even if the role is minimal.

4. Disney Investor Day Recap

Disney’s Investor Day 2020 dropped an abundantly amazing future lineup from across all Disney properties. Disney+ will release 10 new Star Wars series, 10 Marvel series, 15 Disney live action, Disney Animation, and Pixar series, and 15 Disney live action, Disney Animation, and Pixar feature films. Raya and the Last Dragon will release on Disney+ at the same time as it’s theatrical release. You will have to pay the added cost similar to Mulan. For the full line-up click here.

Opinion: As a big Star Wars fan the releases justify my $69 yearly subscription to DIsney+. With a 9 year old daughter and another on the way I am ecstatic and Raya and more quality Pixar films for the family.
