2022 EarthX Film Festival Curtain Raiser

The EarthX Film Festival begins this week. With a mission to highlight the beauty and imposing threats on mother earth, this year’s theme is “A Celebration of the Outdoors”. The festival will showcase films and other emerging media that celebrates nature, promotes outdoor adventures, informs on conservation, increases awareness about climate change, and supports science. EarthX seeks to honor the heroes working tirelessly to protect our planet and create a safe space for the generations to come, all in aims to spark conservation, activism, and change the way people look at this beautiful planet.

The EarthX Film Festival runs in-person from May 12th to the 15th in the Dallas Arts District, an eclectic downtown community, offering five close knit theater venues that exhibit the creative and vibrant character of the city. Each night of the festival, before the showcase screening, will feature live musical performances from artists Abraham Alexander, Will Hoge, Emily Scott Robinson, and more. A virtual version of the festival happens subsequently from May 16th to May 23rd.

This year’s lineup will feature festival favorites like Fire of Love, We Feed People and The Territory along with stories unique to Texas. Out of the vast array of over 75 feature-length and short films screenings are many promising films Learning to Drown, The Monster in our Closet, Camp Yoshi, Kāhuli, and Fern Gully

What I appreciate about EarthX Film Festival programming is how many of the films highlight the government’s insufficient efforts to fight the degradation of the planet due to capitalism and greed. Too often are actions ultimately inconsequential to change. Promises and good intentions aren’t enough. Tweeting about change and hoping for it in the future is not enough. And when our governing powers are too lackadaisical about environmentalism, even voting may not be enough. We as individuals have to continue seeking ways to do our part in taking care of our planet, and I’m thrilled that EarthX and their film festival are here to help inspire and motivate people into action.

Prominent factual entertainment media company, Curiosity, has joined the festival as the Presenting Sponsor. They will be showcasing a screening of their original film, Going Circular, an informative study on circularity, an innovative concept about the consistent flow of mother nature that could save our collective future on planet Earth. It is also available on their streaming service Curiosity Stream, which offers media about an array of topics such as society, technology, history, science, and nature.
