INTERVIEW: A Conversation With Bryan Ruby, Country Singer/Song Writer Bringing LGBTQ+ Awareness To Baseball

In September 2021, Bryan Ruby publically announced that he is gay, setting into motion an effort to bring more awareness for LGBTQ+ respect and representation in the sport he loves, baseball.

Juggling his passion for baseball and country music, Bryan has spent years playing for baseball teams all around the world while writing music for country artists. However, being closeted about his identity has posed many challenges for him and his life.

Since coming out, he's made a commitment to be a beacon of hope and inspiration for others who find themselves in the same position he used to be in. His charity Proud To Be In Baseball helps support and endorse LGBTQ+ youth participation in baseball, and proceeds from his new single "Left Field" will be donated to that cause.

In this interview, I talk with Bryan about his careers and the journey he is on since publically embracing his true identity and living life authentically. Bryan's story is the subject of an upcoming documentary, directed by Clay Westervelt, which Thomas and Bryan also discuss in this interview.
