"Pitch Perfect 3" Movie Review
The Barden Bellas have proven to be a resilient group. After overcoming the challenges of college competition in the first Pitch Perfect, they managed to push their way through a sub-standard sequel and into this grand finale that couldn't be more underwhelming.
Pitch Perfect 3 picks up the story of the familiar Bella team post-college, where real life isn't going ideally for any of them. They regroup one last time to tour American military bases in Europe in hopes of impressing the famous DJ Khaled.
Unfortunately, the Bellas are impressing no one in this final outing. The core members do bring back the fun personalities we first fell in love with, Rebel Wilson exclusively carrying the pack's comic relief.
Everything else about this production, however, seems off-key. With a plot that follows old action movie cliches as closely as group leader Aubrey follows worn out traditions, and poor...sometimes bizarre...developments in conflict makes one wonder exactly what this pitch-fest was trying to accomplish.
Pitch Perfect 3 turns out to be dreadfully imperfect in so many ways. If there is ever a "greatest hits" reunion for the Bellas, it would be ignoring the sequels and doing the first Pitch Perfect movie again.
