"Gringo" Movie Review

Watching Gringo is a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired - you quit when the gorilla is tired.

Odd analogy? Get use to that because Gringo is full of animal-related metaphors for no apparent reason. It's just one of many obscure choices this movie makes in an attempt to convey what could've been a unique and hilarious premise. Sadly, Gringo ends up being neither.

What's worse is the film wastes peculiar selection of great actors. David Oyelowo attempts to keep this movie about a revolutionary marijuana product delivery gone wrong fresh with erratic antics, but the story is too convoluted to be entertaining.

But to classify Gringo as a comedy is to grossly misrepresent this film, as it spends too much effort stumbling from one outlandish scenario to the next and not enough effort making those scenarios funny.

It's a movie where the best parts worked better for the trailer. Outside of those moments, Gringo is non-stop boredom laced with more characters and conflicts than it can handle. If you're contemplating seeing Gringo, the advice I'd give is the same as if you were contemplating wrestling a gorilla: don't do it.
