"Solo: A Star Wars Story" Movie Review

Stealing the Death Star plans is a natural story to tell in the Star Wars universe, but the history of Han Solo is something I neither wanted nor needed, and watching Solo: A Star Wars Story only supports my disinterest.

Let's start with the elephant in the room: Harrison Ford not being Han Solo. I had a hard time watching this movie so egregious replace Ford. Alden Ehrenreich certainly gives this role his best shot, but Ehrenreich simply plays a Han Solo, never fully actualizing into the Han Solo.

But that's not all on Ehrenreich. He and the rest of this ensemble were given a script as poorly written as...dare I say...the prequels. Truly cringeworthy writing that falls flat on every attempt at a punchline, kills off primary characters before audiences can care about them, and hosts a litany of plot choices that are either baffling or unbelievable. Donald Glover is the only component of Solo capable of pulling any value out of the script playing Lando.

Some might be able to extract fun out of the better-for-video-games action sequences, but Solo has me looking at Star Wars Stories and thinking, "I've got a bad feeling about this."
