"Unplanned" Movie Review
Abortion and Planned Parenthood are hotly contested issues in today's political climate. The film Unplanned follows the life of former Planned Parenthood clinic Director Abby Johnson's journey from director to pro-life activist. With a strong message, grisly but honest special effects, and a strong performance from Ashley Bratcher - Unplanned is a must see for many.
This isn’t a film to see if you’re simply looking to be entertained on a Saturday evening. The message deserves the seriousness the film seeks to push forward. Unplanned uses narration to provide necessary context to particular scenes. Bratcher is complete fire in her role as Abby Johnson and pulls off each emotional facet of the film flawlessly. Outside of Bratcher, the rest of the cast is serviceable in their roles.
This film is not for the faint of heart - the visual effects are gut wrenching and heartbreaking; you feel for the characters going through the ordeal. If there’s one thing that could’ve been better in the film, it’s the soundtrack, which is okay at best.
In the end, Unplanned is an emotionally taxing gut punch of a film. However, with strong visual effects and messaging, its a win for the pro-life perspective.
