Review: “Soul” Delivers Satisfying End to 2020
The Pixar/Disney magic is in full effect with Soul. 2020 has been an incredibly tough year to endure, but this particular film is not only relevant in our day to day lives; it’s also the perfect film to wrap up a trying year.
Jamie Foxx (Law Abiding Citizen) is Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher whose passion is jazz music but just as he lands his big break he finds himself in another realm. There he meets 22 (Tina Fey) who he must help find her own passion. The two embark on a journey to get Joe back to his big break and in the meantime find out what it means to have a soul.
22 steals the show in this movie. Tina Fey's voice acting is perfect for the misunderstood character. Soul will keep even those who are not sold on the premise intrigued throughout. The story is fairly simple - live life to the fullest. In the midst of global pandemic that’s a lesson many of us may need. The film successfully pulls off being a child’s movie that adults can also enjoy. The animation is exquisitely done and the musical touch works well.
Soul is the best animated feature of the year. Fey’s performance, a necessary message, and Pixar quality VFX make for an incredible film for both children and their parents. So sit back with your loved ones and rediscover your soul just in time to put 2020 behind you.
