In Old Henry, Tim Blake Nelson stars as an widowed farmer who shares his Homestead with his only son. The two take in a seriously injured man with a satchel of cash, but with the kind gesture comes unexpected danger. When a posse of men led by Stephen Dorff claiming to be the law enforcement come for the money, the farmer must decide whom to trust. As the siege of his homestead begins, he reveals his gunfighting skills and the truth about his past.

Tim Blake Nelson utilizes this opportunity to offer an impressive performance in this lead role; this man was made for westerns. On the other side of the story dynamic, Stephen Dorff plays an incredibly cunning and ruthless villain with a performance in Old Henry that sees Dorff at his best. Composer Jordan Lehning does well mixing the quintessential western style tunes with tense scores. Each of the fight scenes are beautifully shot and well choreographed.

While most audiences will be headed toward Venom 2 this weekend, audiences should not overlook Old Henry. It’s an action Western that sports fantastic acting, a good score, and entertainment value for the masses; an absolute must-see, if you ask me.
