"The Endless" Movie Review

Giving more information than viewers need can be a major downfall for sci-fi films. The Endless, however, forgoes overexplaining it's paranormal nature and makes the unknown its greatest asset.

The Endless begins with two brothers struggling to make ends meet years after escaping a UFO cult. To gain closure for one of the brothers, who regrets leaving the family-like commune, the two revisit the camp. As they notice more strange and unexplainable events, they realize this cult is not what it seems.

I'll be the first to admit that there's a lot about the environment that directors and lead actors Justin Denson and Aaron Moorhead played with that I didn't get. Fortunately, these details don't distract from the larger picture that the duo created.

Rather than unveiling every detail of what haunts the characters, The Endless centers its attention on the brothers' relationship and the choice they have to make between returning to the familiar-but-uncomfortable life they've built, or the unknown cost of remaining in utopia.

It's a mysterious premise that relies more on acting and storytelling than visual effects. If that appeals to you, it's likely your love for this sci-fi journey will range from great to endless.
