Military Mondays: “Windtalkers” Review
Windtalkers is a World War II film encapsulating the use of Navajo code talkers during the invasion of the Saipan Islands. While the film refuses to go deeper than base level on many of the issues that befell the code talkers the overall acting and action keep it moving at a brisk enough pace to be enjoyable.
Both Nicholas Cage and Christian Slater give performances up to par. However, Adam Beach is the star of the film as Ben Yahzee. The numerous battle sequences are well shot and the practical effects are noteworthy. If I had one complaint it is that the soundtrack is below average and did not resonate with me.
Still, the film promotes friendship amongst different groups in the midst of violence and given the current state in our country I don't believe there's a more noble goal for the times & that’s where Windtalkers endures.
